A little bit hard to handle (as videos on Youtube shows).
Futur design should consider a thicker shaft not a longer handle.

The hype is real. Yes, it takes slightly more time (seconds?) to manually grind your beans, but the end result is worth it. Excellent uniformity which means few fines. Really lets you dial in your setting to get your perfect cup of coffee. Quality is excellent. Disassembly for cleaning is quick and straight forward. Calibration is easy and doesn’t take more than a few minutes and is only needed when you reassemble after cleaning, which I guess is good news for those of you who don’t clean you grinder often ;-p 100% recommend if you want to take your coffee to a higher level. I replaced a Virtuoso+ with this, and I am happy I did so.

This is my second grinder to replace my cheap grinder, the HEIHOX, which uses common burr found in many grinders like Timemore C2. The quality and ease of setting the grind level is the best as mentioned by other reviews so will focus my review on taste and if it’s worth the upgrade.
I have done tests between the two grinders using Aeropress and the results led me to conclude it all comes down to what you like. The cheap grinder gives sweeter and fuller body but less clarity, meaning no separation of various taste notes. K-Max tend to produce lighter body but more clarity because you can taste all the various flavors such as fruity and floral notes in fresh Ethiopian. If you like Ethiopian, then K-Max is great. I like having both grinders to be able to change things up but I enjoy both.
Some have said it’s easy to clean and calibrate. I’m very technical person and I can tell you it’s not that simple. You need to read and follow directions precisely. I ended up locking it and had to send it to 1zpresso to unlock it. At first they weren’t going to cover the cost but did so after I showed them that following their instructions caused it. They agreed and they updated their instructions since after they asked me to review it. I have to say they did a great job supporting their product and they’re very friendly to work with, which you won’t get with cheap grinders.
Is the K-Max worth it? Definitely! Its smooth and fast operation is the best so grinding experience is more enjoyable. It’s preferred for high end coffees because it is able to better extract flavor nuances from the beans while giving pleasant grinding experience.

This workhorse makes excellent tasting coffee. I upgraded from a $60 time more c2 and the improved flavor quality and brew consistency was immediately noticeable.
All the parts are high quality, the only plastic is the chamber cover on the rotor. I expect it to serve well for 10-15 years. Easily worth the money.

Can’t say enough good things about this grinder. The performance, the appearance, the build quality, the case. All around 5 stars.

I will be comparing the 1Zpresso K-Ultra to my MiiCoffee DF64 for V60 pour-over .
The DF64 is better as it produces more consistent grind and is less messy.
Considering the price of the K-Ultra and the fact it doesn’t have a motor, I was expecting a little more in terms of grind consistency (lots of fines). But above all I can’t get over how messy and static-y this grinder is. Even after tap-tapping the bottom of the grinder with the palm of my hand, there is coffee grind clinging to very surface of this grinder. I suppose that’s why a brush is included with the grinder!
Although I’m still experimenting using settings between 5 and 5 1/2 seems to correspond to 60 to 65 on the DF64.
The manual grinding process is a delightful surprise. I would not be bothered if this was the only grinder I owned and had to manually grind my coffee a few times a day. At the settings mentioned above it takes a little over 20 seconds to grind 15 grams of coffee. Not bad.
I appreciate that a case is included with the grinder as imo portability is where this grinder shines.
Overall, it won’t replace my DF64 but the K-Ultra will come with me everywhere I travel from now on!
