Fried my old voltage regulator/rectifier when plowing my driveway and constantly winching in and out for the plow. Not only did my old voltage regulator not convert the stator AC into DC to charge the battery but it was draining my battery at more than 10A. Fried my multimeter fuse trying to measure it, before fixing it, now I need multimeter fuses to measure current again.🤷🏻♂️

My old rectifier/voltage regulator developed an internal short that actually left me stranded partway down the driveway and blew the fuse on the start relay. When I pulled it off, it was so burned that chunks of epoxy were falling out of it. I noticed as soon as I unboxed this new one that it has a heat sink about 50% larger than the OEM unit. That should help keep it from heating up as badly. Installation was relatively easy.
The absolute hardest part of the whole job was getting the gasket retainer out of the 4-pin rectifier plug. It required holding back three plastic tabs at once, which was a major pain. Maybe there’s an easier way to do it, but I finally got it out without damaging the plug. After that it plugged right up. I fired up my ATV and put a voltmeter on the battery. I got a solid 14.5V from idle up to 4,000 RPM. After a few minutes of running it, the fins were definitely warm, but not so hot that I couldn’t keep my finger on it. We’ll see how it holds up over time.
Considering that Arctic Cat wants $250 for an OEM unit that doesn’t have as much cooling capacity, I think this is potentially a really good upgrade for the quad.

Melted the wiring harness. Silent so much time and money trying to figure out why engine is misfiring. Even thought it was CDI and spent 350 on a used one. Why blame a new voltage regulator? Turns out that’s what it was all along. Horrible part and experience. Past the return date. So much wasted because of this part
