Recently I decided to uptake archery as a new hobby but didn’t want to spend too much money doing so. I refused to buy a bow that seemed too childish to me. I considered the Bear Archery Titan Bow but it seemed to be a little too low on draw weight. I came across this bow and it seemed like the adequate bow for my purpose. Now I know that other reviewers have said negative things about this bow, and they have justice in doing so. Here’s the breakdown:
    Pros:
-Solid build. Fiberglass limbs and a synthetic handle and rest.
-easy to learn. With a few instructional videos, you’ll be an amateur within minutes.
    – Cheap- perfect for someone who wants to try archery for a low cost.
    – easy to string- I had a little trouble at first because I don’t have a stringer but I eventually figured it out.
    – Perfect draw weight- for beginners, 35 lbs seems to be the best starter. Now obviously it’s pretty easy to pull back if you aren’t a young child, but it’s perfect for practicing good form. Something you need before moving on to 50+ lb bows.
    – Fun- obviously, you want this to be worth your while. This bow is fun to shoot and a great way to indulge yourself into the hobby of archery.
    Cons:
*Now obviously, not everything about this bow is perfect.
    – HANDLE- now here’s where most of the criticism originates in most reviews. Very very cheap method of gluing. I mean, c’mon, really Bear? Does not look durable at all. Definitely won’t last forever. If you have some tennis grips like me, those are nice to use as a replacement or as bondage to keep the handle attached.
    – Arrow rest- Another big downfall of this bow. The arrow rest is so ridiculously cheap that I doubt it will last a week. Just like the handle, it’s going to detach soon. And after just 20 minutes of shooting (about 20-30 arrows), there were very noticeable wear marks and scratches. I’d definitely plan on doing something to replace it down the road.
-Factory marks- right out of the box, you are encountered by unappealing scratches and marks on the two limbs. Manufacturing was not a very careful process. Also, there were a few nubs and drop-like marks on the limbs, even though I have never dropped it.

Overall: this bow is perfect for teenage-adult beginners. Probably not the best for a young child. The Barnett Lil’ Banshee is great for that. The bow itself is well constructed and great quality (most of it). Such a great price of you are looking for a good gateway bow into archery. It is fun to shoot and is sure to get you interested in all things archery. The downfall, obviously, is the cheapy handle and weak arrow rest. But those can be easily fixed and inexpensively too. And so if you’re wondering if this bow is the right starter for you, I’d say that it is fantastic and definitely recommended.

My first conventional bow but not the first time using one.

    Cons
    – Crappy arrow rest (removed them)
    – String is not that great
    – 5 lbs away from being legal to hunt big game

    Pros
    – Great price
    – Sturdy bow NOT cheap by any means
    – Will last forever (my kids will be using it when they are older)
    – Light
    – Great survival tool

Would recommend to anyone that wanted to start leaning how to use a bow.
I just wish it was a 40 lbs bow at this great value. I was using some basic aluminum arrows and the results was terrible. Bought Beman® ICS Hunter Junior™ Arrows made for bows upto 40 lbs and wow what a difference, awesome grouping and straight flight. So use a lighter arrow with this bow and you should get great results.

I don’t know what to say, this is just a good, simple, basic, honest bow.

Took it to the shooting range and could consistently hit a rubber bear about 120 meters away with the right angle and aim. Honestly I’d rather have a simple rugged bow like this than one of those fancy wooden expensive bows, this is so simple and looks pretty nice too.

I used to practice archery as a kid and was feeling nostalgic for a simple stick bow. This fit the bill perfectly and would make a great starter bow. I don’t use it much because of my location within the city limits, but have taken it out shooting over several weekends with very positive results. Its exactly what I was looking for. The string is strong and sturdy and looks like it will hold up quite well. The bow itself is firm, easy to draw, nice height for an adult and just a simple no frills fiberglass bow. The string caps on each end are made of plastic, and this did concern me, the last thing you want is to have a string cap come off while pulling! But is is a rather heavy gauge plastic and is very firmly attached. I do not believe this will be an issue, but will keep a sharp eye on it and if it develops any problems. The only negative I can honestly give the bow is the arrow guide. It also is plastic and just feels like its durability is limited. As I indicated, I have used this bow several times (probably shot it 200 times?) and the little plastic guide is still holding up surprisingly well as its designed to swivel slightly to take some of the friction off it–I wonder if other reviewers thought that rocking motion meant it was broke? I can’t give the bow a lower rating because this has not actually broke, but I will not be surprised if it does, and if it does I’ll come back and let everyone know how long it took to break. Overall, this is an inexpensive, simple bow that would be a great non-toy starter bow. If you keep your expectations to that, you will really enjoy this purchase as I have.

I was unsure if I was a righty or a lefty when shooting so I went on a long search for a bow that has both as an option. I am so happy with this Bear Firebird “youth” bow. (5’4 adult) The feel and weight are perfect. It shoots well. I haven’t noticed any problems when shooting. I would highly recommend this for beginners whether they are youth for and adult. Its ambidextrous design makes this the perfect buy.

No lo he probado en espacios abiertos para ver la distancia y precisión que pueda tener.
Pero para el precio cumple mis expectativas.

  9. OORAHMarines!

Did quite a few modifications, but shot it raw and it performed greatly as expected. Works very well, i’d say it makes a great first bow. Durable, and as multiple reviewers have stated before that the grip and and arrow rest were not the best of quality so i just took off the rest, and covered the grip portion in a nice woody camouflage duct tape. and put a magnetic rest (homemade, though you can buy them) on where the other rest was. i did this before i shot the bow for the first time and i’ll tell you this is a great shooting bow for the price (got it for 45 with one day shipping included!) so i’d say, just take consideration and be innovative if that doesn’t work out THEN you down the ratings, just a pointer.

P.S. the new rest is basically a wire on a pivot that the arrow rests on, when fired the bottom fletching just knocks past it so the arrow maintains straightness, simple to make, just Google “magnetic arrow rests”, they’re fantastic when it comes to improved accuracy if you want to shoot vanes (plastic feathers basically), rather than feathers and don’t want to lose the few FPS from a whisker biscuit. I just had to point this out, AWESOME addition to the bow rather than that temporary rest included.
