For pure sheet music writing it certainly does the job.

This is a nice app for drawing up and testing rhythms. I am not much of a music person, I have taken a couple classes out of curiosity and now my kids love putting together little ditties.
This is not the easiest one I have used, but it is nicely displayed, plays well, and is not too difficult to navigate.

I am an old school composer; writing pencil on paper. I’m not into loops, beats, and other contemporary techniques.
I’ve earned my college degree in classical music composition, and this software allows me to write in the style of which I am accustomed. For a long time, I used Magix Notation, but NCH’s Crescendo blows that software away. It allows me to write the way I want, it recognizes repeats, first and second endings, and performs them when you play your data. This is an absolute boon for me to print orchestral scores and parts, most musicians balk at reading handwritten music. I cannot recommend this software enough (and NOT expensive. The best part is that this software is extremely intuitive. Software like Finale and Sibelius have a lot of tedious entry data, and it’s a real pain in the a**. Not so with Crescendo. You can drag notes, and right click small details. If you are old school, like me, this software is for you!

The main reason this gets a 2 star rating is that it attempts to add multiple other products when you install it, which my anti-malware software calls PUPs for Potentially Unwanted Programs. They are very irritating and a nuisance. And, that is why I haven’t even tried running this program after installing it.
Get with it, programmers. Learn that alienating customers with this kind of tricky game is eventually self-defeating, and that after a while you will have earned a bad reputation and no one will want to play with you. It’s a shame when you get a negative review just because of the way you present your product. Maybe if you were to provide a straightforward, limited but functional piece of software that does something useful, you might get me to actually try to use your product. And maybe then, the rating would be higher. Hypothetical, of course. If I had paid for this, I would have placed a stop payment on the check.

The only issues I have had come from my own shortcomings in music notation knowledge, but the software serves as a learning tool as well, I can transcribe music quickly, easily and can make changes on the fly. everything is flexible, smooth and adaptable to my writing and composition style. The price in comparison to equal software is fantastic and composition flows nicely.

I think this program is brill’
As a new-comer to reading/understanding music, recognizing notation values, etc, this program has proved to be a great help. I can write music notes accurately, have a go at writing tunes and the program will play the tune back to me!…I love it

Only started using this today but I have to say i’m impressed! For a free software it’s pretty good. The one thing I wish is that it would line the notes up for you. For example if you have a treble and bass clef it won’t line them up you have to drag them along so that they line up or it’s confusing to play. The playback option lights up as each note plays so that makes that easy to do it’s just a bit of a pain to have to. I’ve previously used sibelius student which is of course a little more advanced but this is considerably cheaper for basic composing and arranging 😉

This is a well-designed product and has options galore! However, I found that by the time I found out how to input notes, measures and everything else, I would have been better off just writing it down on music paper. Also, I never found a way to indicate resting for several measures at a time. Very important.
Something that would like minutes to write down yourself will take HOURS with this software. That does not mean I won’t use it. I still like it.

I’ve enjoyed playing with it

The software is free, but it does not state that it is only a trial version which expires in a few uses, then it wants you to buy the paid version. This is very deceptive.
