Tried the shimano tekota, daiwa saltist, and penn fathom 2. Penn wins.
Made in China
Frame and side plates all aluminum, Big brass main gear, lots of Stainless bearings. Right full of grease. Nice stainless cover screws phillips/flathead easy to take apart. Clutch lever is nice, freespool resets with the handle or lever. Lots of space to fiddle with the beautiful brass spool, with knurlings for braid, easy to see level indicators. Drag has click retention so it doesn’t creep, star wheel is a little small but workable. The finish is a nice matt black with a good grippy feel and takes pencil easily. Clicker is nice and crisp/loud. Counter reset button is good, numbers are kinda small. Handel is adjustable for power or quickness, the knob is big and grippy(unlike the other two)
The levelwind gears and counter gears are plastic, maybe a designed weak point. Easy to get to if i carry spares.
The whole reel comes apart in a minute and the spool is super easy to take out.

I love this real, and it was at a good price. Also the counter works well for offshore fishing. If the fishfinder said that the fish are at 65 feet I can drop exactly to that depth few seconds.

Good line speed to handle turn ratio, should be really good for pulling up big fish from the ocean floor fast. I like the line counter and carbon drag system which is really smooth. Wondered why two red devices on the line counter and had to wait until I had the reel in my hands to find out. One is a given which is the counter reset. The larger red device under the counter window is a wiper to clear the inside of the window. Slide it to the right and a tiny squeegee appears! I used the additional screws and rod clamp parts to better anchor and stabilize the reel to the rod. Loaded 300 yds of 80 lb braid line and it all fit. Should give me lots of years of fishing enjoyment!

Reel showed up. New box. Used / damaged reel. 270 dollars and this is comes broke. This bs needs to stop. Its happening all the time anymore.
