In hot weather (100°+) the feeder needs to be fully disassembled & washed every 4-5 days— strong hands needed. Careful filing of base snap lugs makes future cleaning less of a struggle! If allowed to run dry in heat orifice will likely clog—clean gently! Enlarged or misshapen orifice can cause leaks! Glass rim is fragile and easily chips in slippery soap.

I had to return it less than a month later. The bottom plastic part, which the bottle screws into, cracked in several spots. Once cracked, it leaks everywhere quickly and cannot be used. I liked the top fill and the 28 ounce capacity. Perfect for 4 cups of sugar water. But they need to make the bottom of metal, not plastic, so this will never happen again. Maybe I just got a defective one with brittle plastic. Don’t know but I ordered a new one from a different manufacturer just in case. Top fill is the way to go though. Easy to clean every week when filling.

Love, love, love this feeder! I have 4 and have been using them going on 3 years now, and they are awesome! Hummers love them! Someone said the rubber flowers leak, but if you have them pushed in enough they do NOT leak. When I clean the feeder I make sure to push the flower in, and then pull it from underneath to ensure the flowers are tight. I have not had to replace any of the flowers at all. Plus, another reviewer said the threads strip, but I have not had that problem at all. It clearly states in the instructions to be sure the base is tightened enough so there is no leakage. I am very pleased with the feeders and I plan to order more in the future!

Our former ceramic and glass bottle feeder was destroyed in a recent storm. It was beautiful but had been a bit of a nuisance to clean with 2 different brushes, had yellow flower ports that attracted bees, and had no perches. An ant moat deterred ants – as long as it had water in it which the birds drank.
This Perky Pet has a large, easy to clean jar, no yellow to attract bees, and much appreciated perches.
Fortunately, the disassembly for cleaning video shown on the Amazon site is not necessary, as ours is of different construction and came with no such cleaning instructions.
I did wrap the jar with reflective window film as I had the previous one, keeping nectar fresh for 3-4 days in our brutal summer heat. I have everything ready when I bring in the feeder for cleaning/refilling and can accomplish the task in five minutes flat. The hummers watch me through the window as I do it twice a week.

Top-Filling makes it way easier to refresh nectar and less concerned about leaking from the bottom, however, the number of visits decreased since I changed with the previous one. So I switched back my previous feeder which leaks from the bottom.

I’ve had many feeders. Most have been the pinch style where it’s difficult up fill and when you do fill it and flip it back over it’s not full, this top fill is do very easy, lift the lid, fill it and snap the lid back on, no leaks at all. Looks nice too. Big enough reserve where you don’t have to fill it as often, unless you have a lot of hummers.

I liked this so much I ordered a second one. Opens and fills from the top, which to me is a total deal break, so easy to fill. When you tighten the bottom it actually seals, no water leaks. The flowers come out for easy cleaning, the jar is very easy to clean. The hummers? They love it, I have several flocking to it ever time I put it out. Highly recommended.
