My experience with straight mutes in the past has been largely on other brass instruments, but this one doesn’t feel too different from what I expected out of a bass trombone version. Because of the weight, I kind of wish that this one had a handle, but that would add to the size, so I understand not having it.
The most important thing is that you can get loud pedals out of it.

I found this mute difficult to remove readily from my bass trombone due to the wide bottom. Unfortunately, my hound dog was able to crush the open end. She unzipped my mute bag and go it it out. 😥
