I don’t know if they are helping my dogs yet since I just started them. I have 2 dogs a 4 yo golden retriever and a 14.5 yo bull terrier, both with kidney disease. I wanted to respond to the comments about smell and size of the pills. Yes they are large, but not any bigger than a small dog treat and yes they have a very strong smell which my dogs seem to like. Now I wouldn’t eat them after smelling them but I am human. Dogs like smelly stuff, especially my older dog who seems to not smell as good anymore. My dogs eat them like treats so so far so good. Now let’s see if they have any effect on their blood work.

So I have been using this product since September and everything was going well. My dog loved it, her values are doing well and she had no issues with this supplement. However, recently I have purchased it (always through Amazon) in the month of November and both bottles I received, though sealed and packaging intact and undamaged, all the tablets were broken, crumbled and had a very strange smell to them. I returned the first bottle and ordered a new one thinking it was damaged in transit but now the second bottle I received was the same. I hope Vetri can fix this issue soon as I purchase other products from them too for another pet.

Recommended by our vet instead of a very expensive prescription med. Bishon’s are susceptible to kidney issues and along with his prescription food, we have a healthy pup.

My 12-year-old terrier was diagnosed with kidney failure in July 2020. The diagnosis was based on two urine tests, and he was showing symptoms. He had a blood test in Feb 2021 to stage the disease…and his blood test was normal. He still has the symptoms, so the disease is still there. I changed his diet, and he lost 15% of his weight so he’s not overweight now. I read up on kidney failure in humans as well as dogs, and started to cook cruciferous veggies to add to the raw meat I still feed him. He drinks the vegetable broth as well as eating the veggies. He loves his new diet and supplements. Thanks for helping me to save my dog!

These are not small nor do they smell good. My dog would not eat them out of my hand or in a pill pocket. But I just smash it up and mix it in with his food and he eats. Now for their purpose, my dog was diagnosed in dec with stage 2 kidney disease creatine was 2.0 and Bun was high 40s. We decided to give them the holidays to eat as he wanted and then we would flip to kidney friendly diet and supplements. In Jan we started with royal canine renal dry F mixed with 1/4 can of Royal Canine wet D. With it he gets this supplement and coenzyme q10 from vetri science. We did level check about a week ago his creatine dropped to 1.1 and BUN was 25. So much better thee vet was extremely impressed. These work they my not bee small or smell good but they help any dog battling kidney problems.

This may work for dogs that are more food motivated but my dog hated this. And because the pills are so large I didn’t dare do the “pop it in her mouth until she swallows it” trick.

The pills in this bottle are ridiculously, absurdly huge. They are called “chewable,” but don’t believe it. I have occasionally bought various companies’ “chewable” pills for the dogs I’ve had over many years, and I have never yet had any dog ever actually chew or eat a so-called “chewable” pill.
These pills in particular are the absolutely largest “chewable” pills I have ever seen. They are gigantic. Even if broken up into quarters, the quarters are still too large to give to a dog like a normal pill. The ONLY way I can give my dog the 1-1/2 Vetriscience Renal Essentials pills she is supposed to take is to use a pill splitter and divide 1 pill into 8 pieces. So for her to take 1-1/2 pills, I have to give her 12 SEPARATE pills (each of them being 1/8 of a tablet). It is ridiculous! It’s stressful for her and a pain for both of us.
So I then tried griding up these enormous pills in a mortar and pestle. They grind easily into a fine powder, but the powder stinks and when I mix it with my dog’s favorite treats (like beef or chicken baby food puree), my dog absolutely refuses to touch it. I don’t blame her, as it smells terrible.
Here’s a note to this company: Please put your products into a manageable size of CAPSULE or PILL (that is NON CHEWABLE) so that dog owners can simply administer a normal pill to their dogs. I’ve never had a dog I couldn’t give a pill to. Dogs are good pill takers! But when it comes to “chewable” pills, they are a hoax — they just do not work. And these pills in particular are absurdly large and smell so bad. It’s no wonder my dog refuses to have anything to do with them.

How am I supposed to get my dog to eat this? It’s too big to disguise within anything.
What an absolute ripoff. These are useless to me.
And they aren’t chewable, there is nothing about their flavor, or smell that would make your dog want to eat these.

The pills are large but my dog likes the taste (and if your dog us picky put peanut butter on them they should take it fine)
They work really well, My vet says my dogs kidneys and blood levels are so good now that we can change getting blood work done every 6 months to once a year now

I have used this product for a few years. 2-3 months ago they changed something and it’s absolutely went to crap.
First of all the pills crumbles in package. So wasted ton of medicine and impossible to give proper dose.
Next they must have changed the taste because now my dog eats around this supplement
I guess the new standard answer for everything crappy around the world maybe their excuse (insert c-19 excuse of your choice)
I just stopped my subscription & save. No reason to pay for medicine that comes in a powder format and they have not responded to any complaints here on Amazon either.
