It is great!

Yanagisawa saxophones come with what the industry knows to be the “best (standard) stock mouthpiece”. This mouthpiece will surprise.
Constructed of preferred hard rubber over plastic, it delivers a warm, even tone, is very versatile and responsive, this mouthpiece is suited across genres and repertoire, be it classical, jazz or new age.
Considered an upgrade from the std Yamaha 4C.
No 5 is the best to start with for adult beginners.
Bobby-47 –
This is the mouthpiece that came with my Yanagisawa 991 alto sax, but it is the least favorite of my 4 mouthpieces, which I would rank in this order: Selmer Concept, Vandoren Optimum AL-3, Sigurd Rascher, and Yanagisawa #5. My Selmer and Vandoren mouthpieces are much easier to play and produce warmer, richer tone quality than the Rascher and Yanagisawa mouthpieces. I have always found the Yanagisawa mouthpiece to be hard to play, with a rather unrefined sound. But a saxophone mouthpiece will respond differently for different musicians, and I understand that some people really like this mouthpiece.

I have a yanagisawa alto sax and I don’t especially care for this mouth piece. I suppose on a beginner player it would be ok but not me. And I love the brand of alto sax….I prefer other mouthpieces with my alto sax.
